About
Photographer and artist, Berlin
Valentin Dobrun is a photographer and artist based in Berlin.
Born in Düsseldorf, he grew up with photography, learning it early on from his parents and his grandfather. After studying various subjects in Berlin, he graduated from the Neue Schule für Fotografie in 2023.
He photographs bodies in motion: on stage, in rehearsal, in the moments before and after a performance. His pictures are taken from inside the room rather than from the front row, close and unpolished. He works mostly digitally and lets each project find its own form.
Since 2020 he has photographed performances and concerts by Yves Tumor and Coucou Chloe, the exhibition 1.618 at Schinkel Pavillon, and worked repeatedly with choreographer Kiani del Valle on stage work, portraits and the series Naxos de Piedra y Sal.
His own practice centres on the body and on image-making itself. In 2024 he initiated CHOR, a one-off exhibition of his work.
